Frequently Asked Questions

Don't see your question? Of course we have not thought of everything! Just ask.

01

How much spending money do I need to bring?

$100-250 should be enough to cover souvenirs you wish to buy as well as a few meals out that won't be covered by the trip's $3700 cost. If you extend your trip, know that there will be additional travel and tourist expenses during your additional weeks abroad.

02

Can you tell me more about the different options for returning, the first few weeks in Europe, etc.?

You should check out the Itinerary Options page!

While we will book your plane tickets even for those not returning on the 2nd, any additional costs of a plane ticket not leaving on the 2nd (or returning to a U.S. city other than Denver) will be the responsibility of the pilgrim.

03

What does being on the leadership team entail?

The leadership team will be a core community of intercession, communication and trust, each trained for a specific service on the trip (see below). Leaders will also be an example in prayer and charity for the others, and a source of unity, attending little meetings along the way to talk details and to intercede. Each will receive weekly spiritual direction during the trip.

There is no discount for being on the leadership team, but you will arrive in Denver on June 23rd at no extra cost.

These are some qualities you would need to be on the team:

  • able to spend a half-hour daily in silent prayer

  • willing to pray out loud in a group

  • specific talent: can sing harmony, play an instrument, photo/video/blog/sound/cook/organize

  • leader of a contingent from a certain school

  • desire to get to know Community of the Beatitudes spirituality and relationships

04

How much time will we spend with Beatitudes pilgrims from other countries?

As soon as we arrive in Europe, we will be traveling with pilgrims from all over the world:  potentially France, Spain, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, island of New Caledonia, China, and Taiwan. We will all be together for the conference in the Czech Republic and World Youth Day itself, but as most pilgrims have options for other parts of the trip, not everyone will be with the same people for their entire time abroad.

05

Where will we be staying?

All over the place! Much of the time, we will be hosted in of the Beatitudes houses around Europe. We may also stay in homestays, high school gyms, classrooms, parishes, or even camp (such as during our orientation in Denver). You'll want your sleeping bag and love of adventure!
